Naples, Fl – The David Lawrence Center, Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit mental health and substance abuse treatment facility serving children, adults and families, is pleased to announce a $2,600 grant from The Glitter Foundation, Inc. to fund a new art therapy program on the Children’s Crisis Stabilization Unit, an inpatient mental health unit where children experiencing a psychiatric crisis receive brief voluntary and involuntary evaluation and treatment.

amanda jaron art therapyAmanda Jaron, founder of The Glitter Foundation and a longtime supporter of the David Lawrence Center, shared, “I could not be more proud to help get the DLC children’s art therapy program off to a running start. Our foundation is celebrating our first year in Southwest Florida and we look forward to being able to do more initiatives like this in the years to come.”

The new art therapy group will be held twice a month and will be conducted by an independent registered art therapist and mental health counselor. The goal of the program is to improve the child’s ability to communicate in healthy ways, increase self-expression, provide and reinforce emotional regulation skills and increase the child’s sense of well-being while on the unit.

The Children’glitter in the city 2016 founded by amanda jarons Crisis Unit Art Therapy program will utilize the therapeutic use of art making to help children who experience illness, trauma or challenges in living. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps children to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress and achieve insight while also increasing self-esteem and self-awareness.David Lawrence Center_The GLITTER Foundation
